Physically Done Growing (Up, at Least)

Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have finally found Connor's permanent height.

He was measured in the Fall of 2011, when he was 13.3 and change.  Then, he was measured in April of 2012, October of 2012, and last weekend, in April of 2013, and the last three measurements have all been 14hh and something really negligible, like 1/8" or 1/16".  Although he will continue to fill out through the next two years (ages 7 and 8), he seems to be done growing up.  While 14hh might seem small to some, I am ecstatic that he's both over the minimum height for a D, and over 14hh (which in my brain gives us some unwritten level of credibility that would have been unattainable for an adult riding a 13.Xhh pony) but not going to get any taller.  He's perfect!

  2. I won't lie... There are many days where I wish I had gone with one of the more fun sized options... Darn PPE's... Is Connor 6 this year? Houston is too and while I think he is done growing (up- not out) my vet said he could still grow some.

  3. Fun sized is fun, but so are big strapping Warmbloods with big strides, which I wish I had sometimes especially when we're jumping or hacking out with others! Connor is going to be 7 next month, but Cobs are slow to mature, and his line is known for being especially slow to mature. He probably won't be finished growing out until he's 8 or 9.

  6. If you had ever walked with Hue and I you would know that for a horse with a big stride his walk is painfully slow! Connor could probably out walk him easily. It is my own fault for allowing him to be a pokey horse but it is so painful trying to get him to walk forward (constant nagging) and when hacking I just want to relax...

  7. I love Rory's height, which is just over 14h too. I am only 5'2 so it is perfect for us! And he has so much presence that he seems so much bigger!
