Clip #2.5: Full Clip

I knew what I was signing myself up for when I gave Connor the fastest Irish clip in history before my lesson a week ago Thursday.  I knew I'd have to reclip the whole horse in order to give him his second and (hopefully...) final full clip of the year.

Yup.
I'm getting pretty fast at clipping in general.  I'm not good at it - that's the point of a full clip (read: don't have to do straight lines) on a horse that grows hair faster than anything else in the barn.  But I'm fast, and reasonably good at minimizing lines these days.

I mean, that doesn't look like a lot of hair, but it's just his butt and his back, and it's just five weeks of growth since his last full clip.  Plus he's tiny.  So it's a ton:

Anyone else on their 2nd or 3rd clip of the winter?

  1. I'm definitely going to have to clip Dino again this week.. his irish clip is already looking rather fluffy and he's been sweating a lot more than I'd like! Ugh. Dang ponies with their yak-like abilities to grow hair.

  2. I generally have to clip 3 times. This year since Dee has been on vacation and then a slow re-introduction to work I think I'll manage to get away with only 1 clip.

  3. I'll be impressed if you only end up with two clips this year. I usually tally up a good four or five by the time my yeti deigns to grow a summer coat.

  4. I've only done one so far, but could easily do another except that T doesn't grow that much hair. Paddy, otoh, looks like a shag carpet. He's not being ridden as much so it's not such a big deal though.

  5. Cosmo is hairy like a yak, too. He's had 2 clips already, a full and "grandpa pants" and is getting his 3rd this weekend. Not sure if I'm going to do a full, or trace, or what. He is so hairy, but I am feeling like I might be lazy...but we are also showing so he has to look presentable.

  6. Yikes second already? We're still on the initial tracer clip. If all goes according to plan (not holding my breath), I'll full clip in January sometime and that's it for the year.

  7. Gina's about to see clip #2- I clipped before hunting season started, but it seems like she just keeps growing hair!

  8. I should have already done clip #2 but I just haven't yet haha. I'm going to put it on my calendar for the week or so especially since our weather was 60s and rainy today which is unheard of in MN at the end of November.

  10. I've done a full clip on Lines twice already. I'll need another one in January I'm sure. Hoping I can hold off til then ;) Thankfully, Tony's staying fluffy this year, so I don't have to worry about him!

  11. I'm kind of glad I don't have to clip this year since I'm out of service!

  12. Eugene needs a second clip, but we're putting it off for fear or injury. Nilla is still okay on the first clip, but I only did it a few weeks ago. She's also a wooly mammoth and usually needs a clip in September and then 3 more over the winter.
