Things Right Now

I think this is the longest stretch of time I've ever gone without blogging, which Connor's breeder pointed out to me in a text this week.  She always looks out for me. :)

We're still here and Connor is still cute.

My life right now is ...unsustainable.  Both in terms of things that take up my time (work, horse) and in terms of things that stress me out to the point of not being able to think about anything else (...work).  Even if I had the time to drive the 80 miles round trip to the barn and ride as much as I wanted to right now, at the end of the day I don't have the brain cells to rub together to make a post.

I say this not to complain to you guys, but man, being an adult amateur (at heart) has never been more real than it is right now.  I have my dream job at a great employer, my dream title, enough $$$ to save for retirement and not feel overwhelmingly guilty about my horse expenses (still guilty, just not overwhelmingly guilty...), and yet I'm making it to the barn less than ever and don't have the time to watch clinic videos, think through the holes in our training, or plan my rides in advance.

The good news on the job front is that I'm exploring ways to make that more sustainable.  Can't really talk about that publicly though.  And on the horse front, I have a trainer-sanctioned plan to make that more sustainable too.  More on that soon.

Deep breaths.  It's about to get better.

  3. I know all about unsustainable life commitments! Love that you're able to recognize it and look for positive change. Fingers crossed your other options work out and some relief is on the way :)

  4. I know exactly what you mean. My job has been like that for the last month or so. Luckily after the work trip this past week it should get better again but it sucks. I know what you mean about not having enough brain cells after doing that sort of work.

  5. I know when you don't blog, you're working too hard. I only mentioned it (and worried) after a respectful amount of time. After all, you are my other daughter and it's a mom's job to worry. Plus, you have a really cool pony, who's kind of like one of my kids too. I'm happy to hear that things are getting worked out. You deserve it.

  7. I think most of us AAs have been there at one time or another. Or in my case, like once a month? Hopefully things sort out soon, we all miss hearing from you and Connor!

  8. Hang in there! My horses aren't that far away from me, but there are weeks when work prevents me from seeing them too.

  9. Its even tougher when you consider that SHOULD you make it to the barn and ride, you'll probably be so distracted/tired/grumpy that it isn't even worth it. Or, at least that's how I feel when in your position...

  10. You got this! I've missed your posts but I also am admiring the way you're logically adulting yourself towards a solution - and I'm crossing my crossables you can find a more sustainable solution soon.
