Connor's 15th Birthday Present

Happy 15th birthday to my main man today. I can't wait to share with all of you how good he was at the OLGW clinic last weekend! 15 looks good on you, buddy.

But that will have to wait because if you follow me on social media, you may have already learned that on Sunday I officially spoke for the colt from Foal Friday. (Of course I did, it's such a blogger thing to do to buy a colt that's been photographed from the moment his nose came out of his mom!) I had first dibs on him, but I wanted to meet him on Sunday to be sure. And he'll only be four days old once!

Before we even let them out, I walked over to his paddock to see how engaged with me he would be, and he walked away from his mom to come say hi, and stayed there while I scratched him and he licked my hands. Engaged with people, check.

Then we turned them loose and got treated to, well, four day old colt energy.

It's so hard for me to tell anything with babies, and he's still unfolding, so I'm refraining from making too many judgments on his movement yet. But he has two AMAZING older siblings (one full), and he already has a flying lead change to canter-walk installed, so that's promising.

So shiny, truly one of the shiniest babies I've ever seen

If there was any doubt that this should be my horse, it was erased when he inexplicably stuck his tongue out and left it there for like a straight minute for no reason. Like he didn't notice, or didn't care, or couldn't figure out how to get it back into his mouth? I mean I hope it doesn't become a habit, but how poetic, hahaha.

Look at this face. LOOK AT IT. I laughed til I cried when Lisa sent me this picture.

It's my phone's home screen now.

I think his registered name is going to be Castleberrys Deja Vu, because he looks SO much like his older brother Debonair and also Connor's dad. Still kicking around barn names for him, although right now I'm leaning toward Disco, because he's shiny like a disco ball and will HOPEFULLY be my dance partner in a few years. But I'm open to suggestions!

Either way, welcome to the family, kid!

  2. OMG congrats!!!!!!!! So exciting. Keep the foal pics coming please and thanks! (says the person who has a foal in the bar, taken 10000s of pics and not kept up with posting them!).
Can't wait to see him grow up and be your next partner!

    1. oops - the foal is clearly in the barn, not the bar. Lol Although if this current lockdown extends much further, I might be driven to drink (more).

  9. I am totally biased since he is Roscoe's grandson and Ember and Comrades nephew, but I am so happy for you. So many excellent movers in his pedigree. Congrats!

    1. Yes, Roscoe has done a LOT for the breed, so glad you left him a stallion!

  10. the tongue kills me omg, what a sweetie!! Connor must be so tickled with his present haha. so what's the plan for the next few years of this little bebe's life? or maybe that's a future blog post lol

    1. Definitely a future blog post but I don't mind sharing in the comments too. I learned with Aeres that I can afford two financially, I just don't have time to ride two every single day. So he'll eventually come live with me and Connor at the boarding barn and will learn to be a solid citizen as he grows up. I have no idea what I'm doing with a baby, so this will be interesting for sure.

  11. OMG! OMG! OMG! What exciting news! Connor is getting a baby brother! I have so many questions, like where will he go after he is weaned? Who will be training him? Cannot wait to follow along on your and Connor's and [Disco's] story. Congratulations!

    1. Lots to work out, but he'll grow up with me until he's through the "crash test dummy" phase of being started and then he'll 100% go to my GP trainer for a while. I have no ego where that's concerned and absolutely want the best for his future riding career.

  14. Happy birthday Connor! You don't look a day over 10.

I had a feeling an announcement like this was coming soon... And I think it is wonderful that you were able to visit "Disco" at such a young age and bond with each other.

I'm looking forward to watching him grow up with you. What fun!
