A Couple of Horsey Christmas Gifts

The longer I've owned Connor, the shorter my horse-related Christmas list is.  If I am honest, we have almost everything we need.  Anything else at this point would be a want.

My sister's cat says "Merry F'in Christmas!"

Most of what was on my list this year was trailering and "showing by yourself" related, since 2016 was my first chance to really do both, and I ended up getting just a couple of things.

First up:

Funny story about these water carriers.  My mom, who works part time in a consignment store, looked at my Amazon wish list and saw that I had two water carriers on it.  The next day, she got to her store and someone had consigned four water carriers!  So that's how I got four instead of two.

(Connor is not picky at all about water at shows, but my delaminated tire incident on the trailer last summer made me think it would be great to have water on hand if we got stranded on a hot summer day.)

Not horse related, but these are my (unusually generous!) presents from my husband.  My first new computer in over 7 years, and I am in LOVE with the Surface Book!

My big gift from my parents was a rolling vertical Stanley "mobile workstation":

The moment I saw one of these earlier this year, I knew it would be great for horse shows.  It's about 3 feet tall, and when closed it has a telescoping handle and rolls like a suitcase.

Still shown open, but with the top toolbox lid closed.

It will likely replace the small Sterilite trunk I bring to shows, and, combined with the backpack, is going to be a killer way to not only organize things, but also have a nice flat surface to put things on.  I'll do a proper review of it the first time I use it at a show.

What'd you guys get for Christmas?

  1. Great gifts you got there. I didn't get any horsey gifts this year, got lots of Nike stuff from my sister who works for them in Portland and a fab onesie from my mam as well as some awesome books. Yay for Fantastic Beasts screenplay by JK Rowling & the sweet book about a cat helping a guy get his act together.

    1. Oh man, I would be so happy with a pile of books! Only, I love having paperback books around but I always find myself reaching for my Kindle. #firstworldproblems Nike stuff is horse stuff in a lot of cases, right?!

    2. Absolutely on Nike stuff equaling horse stuff. She has asked me to produce a wishlist from current winter stock so she can try to nab stuff now the sales...I'm totes looking at everything with an eye to equestrian layering

  2. That rolling Stanley looks amazing! My gifts were riding clothes for schooling/dressage camp. For the 2nd year, Paul made a wall calendar for me which looks like a year in review of riding!

    1. Aww! I feel like Paul is exceptionally good at gifts for you. I mean, Riva was a gift, right? Haha

  3. Nice haul! That Stanley looks really useful! I got some silver DSBs (and then promptly broke down and bought myself the turquoise ME boots so now I have boots coming out my ears haha), and a teal fly veil. Oh and some Petries for myself! I also got some vests which I plan to ride in, because vests rock!

    1. Dang, girl! What a haul! I'm so jealous on the turquoise boots, those new Majyk Equipe sport boots look awesome but I'm on a self-imposed spending freeze so I can pay off my truck in 6 weeks. And Petries! So awesome.

    2. I'm blaming Aimee -- I was doing well at ignoring them but the RW had that sale and she told me how cheap I could get them if bought 2 pairs (cheap being relative of course lol) and I was in a stressful situation, and stress shopping seemed like the answer 😂 I shouldn't have done it, but oh well... Haha.

    3. Looooool. I've done that before. Someone should host a poll and calculate the number of times Aimee has influenced a tack purchase and how much money she's coerced people into spending. That would be hilarious!

    4. Aimee and Amanda are the reason I have a #bloggingisbankruptingme hashtag on IG 😂 I am easily persuaded to part with my money for fun shiny horse things....Haha.

    5. Hey sometimes you need that friend who convinces you to say yes to what you've always wanted.

    6. That's what friends are for 😋

  4. Nice haul! :-) The rolling Stanley is worth its weight in gold! I have one and love having almost everything (aside from tack) in one place that can just roll into a show barn to set up. You need some monogram decals for that baby now! ;-)

    1. Ooooh what a good idea! I didn't even think about that.

  5. I'll be very interested to hear more on the rolling Stanley! :) I still haven't received my Christmas present from my mom (really the only person who takes my horsey wishlist seriously), but I think I'm getting a set of brushes from Teddy's Tack Trunk (eeeep!).

  6. I always, obsessively, haul with enough water to basically get stuck overnight. Tristan is a terrible drinker off-property anyway, and I've been stuck in just enough traffic jams to get nervous. I think everyone should haul with as much water as they possibly can!

I got a pair of winter breeches for Christmas, and that's it. :(

  7. those are awesome gifts! I agree with you that at this point everything horse related that I'd put on a list is a want and not a need and even those wants are tough to come up with. It's a fun place to be finally!

Can't wait to hear more about how these things work for you at shows!

  8. You made out like a bandit this Christmas! That rolling trunk is pretty freaking cool...

  9. My husband did a good job this year. One of those 100 Arena Exercises books (very thoughtful of him), fleece-lined leggings (which I've now worn under breeches a couple of times), a seat warmer for my car for after those frigid days at the barn, and my favorite- the Noble Outfitters grooming tote with the mesh bottom. I love that thing a ridiculous amount.

  10. I'm the same (Especially sans horse) my needs/wants are so small now that it seems trivial to ask for anything. Cool about the water carriers though.
