Product Review: Brooks Moving Comfort Sports Bras

Ah, sports bras.  A subject near and dear to my heart (I mean, literally, right?)  And hey, I already reviewed underwear on this blog, what's one more lingerie review?

Back in college cross-country (the people kind), I once got lightheaded during practice because I was wearing 5 crappy Walmart sports bras in an attempt to keep things in check.

My coach took me shopping for a good sports bra right after that practice, and I was introduced to a whole new world of sports bras so supportive you only needed to wear one at at time!  Who knew?!  Haha.

A couple years after that I found my running, riding and CrossFit holy grail: Brooks Moving Comfort.

Moving Comfort Fiona (new style)

Things I love:

- Starting with my favorite feature: all Moving Comfort bras have Velcro adjustable straps!  I leave the straps loose until I'm ready to ride, and then I reach into my shirt and ratchet things down right before I get on.  Then when I get off, I loosen the straps again.
The straps go through the eye on the front of the bra and double back over to be secured with Velcro.

You would think this would be a failure point or would weaken the support, but it's not and it doesn't.  I love being able to increase the support when I need it, and decrease it when I don't, so I don't feel so constricted when I'm just walking around.

Moving Comfort Fiona
- They come in cup and band sizes.  For those of us who usually find ourselves choosing between a band that fits and a cup that fits, this is lifesaving.  No S/M/L here!

Moving Comfort Juno

- They have a hook and eye closure, so they're easy to get on.

Moving Comfort Fiona (new style).  This is their most popular style, but there are tons of style to choose from.

- They last foreeeeeeeeeeever.  Most of mine are 4+ years old and they still look brand new and support as well as they did on Day 1.

Moving Comfort Fiona (old style - most of my bras are this style)

- Even the medium impact models like the Fiona are ridiculously supportive.  I ride, run, and do  things in CrossFit like box jumps, and my 32D's don't budge a millimeter in the supposedly medium impact Fiona.  I also own one each of the high-impact Juno, Jubralee and Rebound Racer models, but I don't find myself reaching for them as often as I do the Fionas.

Moving Comfort Rebound Racer.  My #2 after the Fiona.

- They look stylish, as super supportive sports bras go.  I used to wear CW-X by Wacoal bras which were A++ supportive, but they were, um, not attractive:

Me, front and center.  This was six years ago after we did Fight Gone Bad.  I'm wearing a CW-X Stabilyx by Wacoal here, which is a very supportive bra, but also a very ugly bra.

I really can't think of anything I don't like about these bras, although I like some models more than others.   They are a little pricey, but they last so long, they're very, very worth it.

Moving Comfort Jubralee

Bottom line: It's tough to beat these sports bras when it comes to style, comfort, fit, quality, longevity and adjustability.  Worth the investment!

What: Moving Comfort Sports Bras (by Brooks, various models available)
Price: Roughly $20-$50 depending on model and store.  I have gotten quite a few "new with tags" very cheap on eBay.  Definitely shop around for these!
Sizes available: 30B-44DD (Not available in A cup sizes)

    1. Yeah, there are a lot of options! I haven't tried them all but when you find something you like, why keep going?

  2. as a 34D-er, can attest that these are the only bras that prevent my own tit from knocking me out. also can attest to their longevity. Mine started having a permanent odeur long before they stopped being supportive..

I some of mine on amazon because I wanted a plain white one for showing (shocker you could see the purple ones under my white show shirts). for reviews sake - I prefer the juno even tho it can be a PITA to get in/out of.

    2. Haha! I had to do the same thing, I tracked down a white one on eBay because even my light blue showed through my show shirt.

    3. I have a white one too that has turned a funky grey but works for light clothing as you said. Some reviewer said you can soak them in some vinegar to help with the smell - no idea.

  3. I have a bunch of Fionas that are years old and yep - still completely wearable. Unfortunately, the boobs got bigger so they're all a cup size too small. That means that nothing moves when I wear them, but terrible monoboob. I've mostly switched to a Wacoal sports bra with underwire for riding - the girls look better in it. But I still break out the trusty Fiona on occasion - It's just not my goto sports bra these days.

    1. Yeah, I hear ya, I honestly think these are best when they do actually fit you, although I definitely have done the one-size-smaller thing in the past too.

  4. Thank you for this review. I keep seeing their ads on Facebook and wondering how good they are, but hadn't wanted to shell out the $$ for one. I found one I liked on sale and dove in. Can't wait to try it out!

  5. Oh man I'll have to look into this, I'm a 30DD and it's a pain in the ass to find anything that fits ever. I've just been using cheap sports bras from Target, which work well enough, but the bands are never small enough (unless I'm popping out of them omg).

    1. I so feel you on this, when you're a small band and a large cup it's really hard to find things in a department store that fit. Definitely give them a try!

  6. Thank you for the recommendation! I've been digging the Wacoal sports bra underwire (underwire is on the outside - not next to the skin) to sidestep the uniboob look. They are reasonably supportive, comfortable and have lasted several years so far. Definitely going to try one of the Fiona's out for more impactful activities. :D

    1. The Wacoal I had didn't have an underwire but it was definitely one of my favorite bras support-wise. Just not attractive, at least the one I had!

  7. Okay I need to find one of those bras. I hate the ones that go over your head and that give great support but also feel like you're being strangled when not riding.
    thank you for the review!

    1. The ones you pull over your head, oh my...so I bought one of those, went to a weekend show and ended up showering in the stupid thing because I couldn't get it off without dislocating my shoulder - the freaking straps crossed in the back and weren't even adjustable to loosen it. I got home Sunday night and was like "please, G, get me out of this thing! I've been trapped for 2 days!" I must have legit looked upset because he didnt even laugh at me :)Never again!

  8. How do you wash them? Because I am super lazy about hand washing..... as in I don't. :(

  9. Thank you so much for doing this!! I’m a 32DD and have seriously considered getting a reduction just because doing anything active can be so uncomfortable. I also wear multiple bras and sports bras layered together and even then I’m uncomfy. I’m totally going to go get one of these and try it!

  10. After spending most of my life trying to find a comfortable minimizer, I finally found the Fiona and amazingly, even with no wire, there is no movement. Your boobs are jammed together and up into your armpits, but no movement whatsoever. I have 4 Fionas and don't wear anything else. I cannot find my size in Germany so I wear them too small, and although I don't like uniboob, this bra reduces me so I feel I don't actually need the surgery. Interesting what you said about adjusting the straps, I never thought of that.
