2021 Clip #1: Best Clip Ever?

The only thing that bothered me about the Welsh show this year was how late in the year it is. Normally we hold them in August or September when the babies look good and everyone is sleek and shiny.

This year, we held it in mid-October, which meant I couldn't clip my boy until after the show, meaning we were 2-3 weeks later than I'd normally clip - and in a very warm autumn, that was not fun for either of us. I truly felt bad for making him uncomfortable in the name of a horse show - and I'm grateful that we don't ever plan on having this show this late again.

Lisa and I sharing a quiet moment at the show

Since he was all clean and bathed from the show, when I got him home on Sunday, I didn't even park the trailer before I started buzzing him. He literally went straight from the trailer (it's a less than 30 minute ride, don't feel too bad for him!) to the crossties.

Armed with brand new blades on my Lister Stars for the first time in...a long time...I proceeded to bang out one of the quickest and best clips of my life.

24 hours after clipping, and no filter - he is just that shiny

I had used Equifuse Rehydrinse on him on Thursday, and between that and the Omega Horseshine that he's been on for I think three or four coat cycles continuously now, he just has that effortless inside-out shine. I mean, the picture above was after a full day of turnout on Monday. Also can't hurt that he definitely doesn't have ulcers right now!

Mmmm dapples

I had to knock that clip out quickly and start packing, because one day after he got home from the Welsh show, he was heading to Cincinnati for flying changes boot camp!

  1. He looks amazing! The Lister Stars made it onto my Christmas list, you've officially convinced me.

    1. They're pretty great, I just went back through old posts and realized I've had this pair since 2014. They're fairly light and relatively quiet for clippers (although still so loud you can't talk over them), and I can do Connor's full clip in around 45 minutes with them. They also are ergonomically shaped and have a fan in such a location that it doesn't blow hair in my face (I'm looking at you, Osters!) which I appreciate.

  2. I'm going to have to clip this year, for the first time in so long! Not really looking forward to it.

    1. I was so excited to clip him I literally forgot to do it this time, but may I recommend the wet clip if it's warm enough? So much better. I got halfway through this one dry and was like WTF is wrong with me, this sucks.

  3. I did Roscoe later this year too. Mom helped by holding the vac right by the blades. So much less hair in my face. Do yours get hot? Love his shine!

    1. They do but not too badly, nowhere near as bad as the Osters I used before I got these. I keep two sets of blades on hand and alternate them between being on the clippers and being wrapped in a cold towel, but I don't think that's super necessary.

  4. He looks fantastic! I need to upgrade - the Andis AGC2 I bought based on rave reviews are really no match for welsh coats.

  5. I clipped Shiny myself this year (my hay/horse allergies are terrible, so I've been farming that chore out normally, but couldn't wait this time) and I was so surprised when she came out looking nice! But not nearly as shiny (lol, irony...) as Connor. He looks gorgeous! I used a fairly new pair of WAHL KM Cordless which are now my most favorite clippers ever.

  7. EquiFuse products are the bomb, I do not know what I would do for clipping without rehydrinse in my life
